The structure of the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) inside the muscle cells resembles the endoplasmic reticulum of other cells. The sarcoplasmic reticulum is a membranous structure made up of longitudinal tubules that gives rise to a system of tubules as well as cisterns which are present in the surrounding of the myocytes.
