Question
Chapter 10, Problem 5TYU
Summary Introduction
Meiosis is a type of cell division; it produces four cells. Meiosis is involved in the production of gametes. During fertilization, two gametes are fused and produce a zygote, a single cell. The daughter cell contains half the count of chromosome from the maternal origin and the other half the count of chromosome from the paternal origin. There are two stages (meiosis I and meiosis II) occurring in meiosis after the interphase. Meiosis I and meiosis II are involved in nuclear division of the cell followed by cytokinesis. Meiosis produces genetic diversity through crossing over between the maternal and paternal homologous pair of chromosomes and independent assortment of paired chromosomes in meiosis I.
