Summary Introduction

To review:

The following:

a. Effects of curare, a poison that blocks binding of acetylcholine to its receptor at the neuromuscular junction.

b. Useful application for this type of poison.

c. The rationale behind the lethality caused by the overdose of this poison.

Introduction:

Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter secreted by axons of the motor neurons in the synaptic cleft. This neurotransmitter is a ligand for the ligand-gated ion channels of the motor end plate. Its function is to create an action potential in the muscle after motor neuron receives stimuli. So, it is necessary for muscle contraction.
