Chapter 1, Problem 8DYKB
Summary Introduction
Introduction
Membranes that line closed internal body cavities are known as serous membranes. The serous membranes that line the pleural, pericardial, and peritoneal cavities are referred to as the peritoneum, pleura, and pericardium, respectively. A small amount of lubricating fluid is secreted by serous membranes. Pleura is the serous membrane that covers the thoracic. It is divided into parietal and visceral pleura.

Pleural membranes surround the lungs. These membranes serve as the glue between the lungs and the thoracic cavity. Which of the following statements is correct about these structures?
The visceral pleura lines the outside of the lungs, the parietal pleura lines the thoracic cavity, and the intrapleural space seals the two layers together
The parietal pleura lines the outside of the lungs, the visceral pleura lines the thoracic cavity, and the intrapleural space seals the two layers together
The thoracic cavity and lungs are only connected by the visceral pleura
