Chapter 1, Problem 2RQ

Explanation of Solution

Information System (IS):

Information system is a set of interrelated components which collect, store, process and distribute the information for decision making, controlling and coordinating the business organization. It also helps in analyzing the problem, visualizes the subjects which are complex, and innovates in creating new products.

The important information within the organization such as significant places, things and people are stored in the information systems. It collaborates people, technology and organization elements in the business to find a perfect solution for the problem.

Components of IS:

The information systems contains three components, they are,

  • People:
    • The dimension of people in the business is their behavior, attitude towards the business and people, and training.
  • Technology:
    • The technological dimension of information systems is the hardware and software components, networking and data management components involved in the IS.
  • Organization:
    • The organizational dimension of information systems is the hierarchy of the business, culture of the business and the processes involved in the business.

Data:

  • It is the representation of objects and events, which are stored and recorded in the computer.
  • It exists in variety of form such as number, value, variable, and so on.
  • It is received by the computer in the input stage of the information processing cycle.
  • For example, database in doctor’s office contain a data such as patient name, address, disease, and contact number...
