Which pioneers of
To list: The pioneers of microbiology who had the leading impact on surgical patient care.
Introduction: The discoveries and inventions in the field of microbiology are vital in the present world. They were fundamental when familiarized to the public as well as to academia. The study of microorganisms is highly required in the field of surgery.
Explanation of Solution
Numerous pioneers of microbiology have set forth various techniques and procedures in the field of surgical patient care. Some of them are as follows:
- Louis Pasteur is a French scientist well-known for his work on pasteurization. He classified the microbes into two broad categories, namely aerobes and anaerobes.
- Joseph Lister is a British surgeon, and he is the first person to describe the aseptic techniques required in the operating rooms. He illustrated the best use of phenol on the hands, wounds, equipment, and during the surgical protocol.
- Edward Jenner is well known for his work on vaccine development. He made attempts to induce immunity against smallpox virus in a child with pustules of cowpox.
- Ignaz Semmelweis is a physician from Hungary who found out that washing the hands with antimicrobial solutions decreases the risk of cross-contamination.
- Robert Koch is a clinician who belongs to Germany, and he conducted an experiment using the anthrax bacteria in cattle and formulated a few postulates. These postulates were later referred to as Koch Postulates.
All these inventions and discoveries are inevitable to the surgical patient care and other fields of biology.

Microbiology for Surgical Technologists (MindTap Course List)
- History may not be your favorite subject, especially learning about a bunch of long-dead scientists who made discoveries that we now take for granted. With an open mind, you may actually find the information interesting and learn a few things you didnt know before. During your examination of the topics in this chapter, consider the following: What types of discoveries in this century, in your opinion, equal those made by the pioneers?arrow_forwardWe are a product of our genes, so they say; however, we are also populated by microbes. Some we cannot do without, but others wait around until our defenses are down and then they strike. During your examination of the topics in this chapter, consider the following: What types of relationships do we have with the microbial world?arrow_forwardThere are several different types of operating budgets. Which of these types of budgets do you think would be best for a hospital-based lab and why?arrow_forward
- When you have completed this section, you should be able to a. give examples of how modern biomedical science emerged from an era of superstition and authoritarianism; and b. describe the contributions of some key people who helped to bring about this transformation.arrow_forwardWhat is the two (2) of the latest advancements in phlebotomy that has improved the efficiency of Medical Laboratory Scientist's work here in our country?arrow_forwardIf you look at pages 110-111, you'll find a discussion about the controversy surrounding the question of whether a physician always has an obligation to tell a patient the truth. What are your thoughts on the issue? Do you think that there are times when it may be acceptable to withhold information from a patient? Here's another thing to think about. Last class, we briefly discussed two commonly invoked principles in bioethics: the principle of beneficence and the principle of autonomy. How might these two principles come into conflict here?arrow_forward
- You are a city council member for a distant suburb of Gotham City, New York. Your suburb does not have its own hospital; in fact, the nearest hospital is 20 miles away. Last week, two competing health care systems both approached the city council about building a hospital within city limits. The city council chairperson has called for a special meeting to discuss these proposals. She is asking all members to do some research and submit a written summary of what ethical, legal, regulatory, and moral factors must be considered by the city council. What are the most important legal, regulatory, ethical, and moral factors that must be discussed in the meeting? As your classmates submit their summaries, participate in a preliminary online discussion about the various factors that have been presented.arrow_forwardWe are a product of our genes, so they say; however, we are also populated by microbes. Some we cannot do without, but others wait around until our defenses are down and then they strike. During your examination of the topics in this chapter, consider the following: How do bacteria get around?arrow_forwardHello, please read the attached Microbiology question and answer the question correctly. Please aim for about 3-4 sentences max (enough to fit within the lines given) *If you correctly answer the question, I will provide a Thumbs Up to you. Thank you.arrow_forward

Why? What kind of information in a governmental database should be made public? Why?arrow_forward
