  1. A group of 100 students was randomly divided, with 50 assigned to receive vitamin C and the remaining 50 to receive a placebo, to determine whether or not vitamin C helps to prevent colds.
  2. A random sample of patients who received a hip trans plant operation at Stanford University Hospital during 2000 to 2010 will be followed for 10 years after their operation to determine the success (or failure) of the transplant.
  3. Volunteers with high blood pressure were randomly divided into two groups. One group was taught to practice meditation and the other group was given a low-fat diet. After 8 weeks, reduction in blood pressure was compared for the two groups.
