Date Reported: December 23, 2016 8:00 a.m.
Reporting officer's Narrative
At 8:24 p.m. on December 22, 2016, a frantic emergency call was received by the duty
officer because of the discovery of two unconscious bodies inside a residence in
Cabucgayan, Biliran. The caller on the other line was identified as Ebony Boyda, she
claimed to be a neighbor of the victims.
Cabucgayan Police Station Unit 209 (Officer w. Prisno) was dispatched to the reported
scene at 9:28 p.m. Unfortunately, the bodies were already brought to the nearest district
hospital for medical intervention. R/0 secured first the scene and requested for backup
to proceed to the hospital.
R/0 recorded the following environment conditions at the reported scene: Weather: Exterior
Ambient Temperature: 28°C, Relative Humidity: 83%.
R/0 Prisno explicitly made this verbal report in nonverbatim summary:
R/0 arrived at the scene and was met by Ebony Boyda who identified herself as the
caller who reported. Boyda exited the area just as R/0 entered the residence
through the main door in the front of the house facing the sea.
Upon clearing the supposed scene R/0 noted that no other person was within the
vicinity.
R/0 observed that a table was set with dinner consisting of fresh oyster, pusô
(hanging rice), isaw (barbecued chicken intestines), and a pitcher of clear
drinking water. There were two unfinished plates as well, each with at least one
piece of empty oyster shell, isaw, and pusô. A broken glass of water was on the
floor near the table.
A few steps from the table, R/0 noticed a bangâ (earthen jar) and went to check
its contents. A strong smell of rotten egg emanated from the water inside the bangâ
when it was opened. R/0 immediately closed the container.
R/0's attention got caught by a silver in the corner of the water basin. Upon
inspection R/0 realized that they were empty blister packs of a generic Paracetamol.
After hearing all the information reported by R/0 Prisno, Reporting Investigator (R/I)
Officer S. Randa hurried to the hospital and arrived at around 10:16 p.m. and inquired
with the medical staff if indeed two unconscious bodies were rushed on the same night.
The medical staff confirmed the report and supplied information, that the two individuals
were identified as Rebreb and Princess Salazar, married with no children. And that the
two were in stable condition already albeit the cause of their medical emergency still
unknown.
When R/I visually inspected the victims, both were still unconscious but seemed to be
sleeping peacefully in their respective hospital beds. R/I left the hospital at around
1:59 a.m. and instructed the medical staff to give the station a call once either of the
victims regains consciousness.
The medical staff called the station at 6:02 a.m. to inform the R/0 that their
epidemiologist suspects that a parasitic protist may have had caused the two victims to
almost lose their lives. Four protists were identified to possibly have infected the
couple: Plasmodium, Entamoeba, Giardia, or Pyrodinium bahamense.
