You are part of a team of researchers examining potential pay disparity between the male and female employees of a private prison. One member of your team, Mr. Green, reports that female employees are paid less than male employees. Another member of the team, Mr. Brown, argued that on average the male employees have worked at the prison longer and any pay disparity is due to seniority. Mr. Green contends that not only are female employees paid less they get smaller salary increases. Mr. Brown quits, claiming that Mr. Green is too hard to work with. Based on the data below, you have been asked to resolve the debate and answer the following questions: Male Female 300 200 Mean Salary in $1000 30 20 Mean Years with the Firm 12 8 Covariance of Salary & Years 12 2 Variance of Years with the Firm 16 4 Show your work : 1. Who is right Mr. Green, or Mr. Brown?
Correlation
Correlation defines a relationship between two independent variables. It tells the degree to which variables move in relation to each other. When two sets of data are related to each other, there is a correlation between them.
Linear Correlation
A correlation is used to determine the relationships between numerical and categorical variables. In other words, it is an indicator of how things are connected to one another. The correlation analysis is the study of how variables are related.
Regression Analysis
Regression analysis is a statistical method in which it estimates the relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variable. In simple terms dependent variable is called as outcome variable and independent variable is called as predictors. Regression analysis is one of the methods to find the trends in data. The independent variable used in Regression analysis is named Predictor variable. It offers data of an associated dependent variable regarding a particular outcome.
