The California mission was a set of 21 missions that were to convert native Americans into devoted Christians and Spanish citizens. Spanish used mission work to influence the natives with their cultural and religious instructions.
The 21 missions comprised California's historic mission trails are all located on Highway 101, which traces El Camino Real, named in honor of the Spanish monarchy which funded the whole quest into California.
