Question
Write a molecular formula corresponding to the systematic n propane. Then provide a new main projection that illustrates the highest energy confirmation of n propane How long any C-C bond axis of the same.
Expert Solution
Step 1

Conformational isomers: Infinite number of momentary arrangements of the atoms in space which result through rotation about a single bond are called conformational isomers.

Propane is considered as a derivative of ethane because in newman projection we consider one carbon as front and other as rear carbon. One carbon is fix say (C2) and other is rotated around C1-C2 bond through an angle of 360°. During this rotation two extreme conformations are: staggered and eclipsed. Both these conformations are interconvertible by rotation through an angle of 60° and so it is not possible to separate these two conformations. The energy difference between these two conformations is 14.2 KJmol-1.

Bond length of C-C bond is 1.54A°.
