Fact #2 states: "Sea temperatures near Greenland and Antarctica are still
steadily around 0°C."
The sea temperature near Greenland and Antarctica are steadily around
O degree celsius but that doesn't mean that the ice isn't melting therefore
not causing sea level rise. When Ice melts, the surrounding water stays
at 0C because all of the heat energy is being used to break the hydrogen
bonds that keeps the water solid in the ice to change it from solid to
liquid. This means that even though the ocean temp is at 0C, ice is still
melting. There are no temperature changes unless the phase change is
complete.
Heat of fusion
Heat of fusion is the amount of
q= m-AH
Mass = 100g
energy heat that's needed to
phase change (solid to liquid).
:A Hfus = 334 J/g
In this case the amount of
q= 100g(344J/g) = 34,400J
energy we need is 34,400J.
