With single phase 120/240, the voltage is double 1 line. Why isnt the 277/480 3 phase work the same way?
The majority of homes and small businesses utilize single-phase electricity because it is easy and affordable to install. Three-phase power is preferred by commercial and industrial enterprises with higher electrical demands since it is more effective and less expensive to run.
Phase and neutral are the two wires that carry electricity in a single-phase power source. Three wires are used to deliver electricity in a three-phase power system (four wires if a neutral wire is included). A three-phase supply has a voltage of 415V, compared to 230V for a single-phase supply. Power sources with three phases are more effective. A single extra wire is required for a three-phase power supply to transmit three times as much power as a single-phase power supply.
The advantages of a single-phase system overall include several application uses. Even while three-phase systems initially cost more to design and install, their maintenance expenses are significantly lower than those of a single-phase system.
