When a reaction proceeds, the reactants convert to products. The amounts of reactants decrease with time while the amounts of products increase with time. At equilibrium, the rate of forward and backward reactions becomes equal. The concentrations of both reactants and products are equal. This state is known as dynamic equilibrium.
