Why is a clavicle a bone that can easily
fracture?

Expert Solution
Step 1

The appendicular skeleton comprises of bones of the upper limb, lower limb, and girdles. Girdle divides into two zones: pectoral girdle and pelvic girdle. The pectoral girdle is composed of two bones clavicle and scapula. They are connected to the upper limb. The clavicle bone is also known as collar bone. The scapula is a triangular flat bone and can be easily visualized in an individual.  The clavicle is sigmoidal and long bones.

Step 2

Functions of the clavicle are:

  • Help in articulation with scapula and sternum.
  • To articulate with the acromion process
  • To articulate with the manubrium of the sternum.
  • To provide a bony connection between the axial skeleton and pectoral girdle.
