Bioplastics are a type of plastic that can be produced from natural materials like plant starches and oils. Because bioplastics are made from plants, there will be a 15-20% reduction in the amount of petroleum used to make plastic.
Plastics that can be broken down into water, carbon dioxide, and biomass by living things—typically microbes—are said to be biodegradable. Biodegradable plastics are frequently made from petrochemicals, microorganisms, renewable raw materials, or mixtures of all three.
Bioplastics should be brought to a commercial composting facility so that bacteria can decompose it in a controlled setting. On the other hand, petroleum-based plastics that have been coupled with a quick-degrading ingredient are referred to as biodegradable plastics.
