Positive behavior refers to the behavior that tends to satisfy the desires and wishes of the respondents. Positive behaviors also consider others' wants. Behaviors such as showing interest, approving, agreeing, showing interest and affection, making balanced criticisms, and forgiving all are examples of positive behaviors.
Martin Seligman, the father of Positive Psychology shifted the focus of psychology from negative aspects to positive aspects. Today positive psychology is one of the main focuses of study by psychologists. It has taken psychologists to study positive behaviors because:
1) Traditional Psychology: Before the emergence of the field of positive psychology by Seligman, psychologists have been solely focused on the views of traditional psychology which has always worked on an underlying negative bias. Traditional psychology is of the view people are large motivated by negative emotions such as fear, anger, disgust, loneliness, etc. It mainly focused on identifying and studying problems.
2) Psychologist Bias: Psychologists have always operated within the disease model of health (medical model, biopsychosocial model, diathesis-stress model), finding and studying everything that could go wrong with mind and personality. They have spent more time studying negative traits and very little time studying positive traits such as kindness, honesty, etc.
3) The field of psychology has been focused on identifying and fixing people's weaknesses and faulty behaviors rather than building strength and virtues.
4) Psychologists have been of the view that individuals as passive victims of biological, social, cultural, etc. factors and not masters of their emotions.
