Eating disorder formally referred to as "feeding and eating disorders" in DSM- 5 refers to any disorder characterized by unhealthy attitudes, beliefs, and behavior related to food. They are serious behavioral conditions that cause persistent and severe disturbances in the social, physical, and psychological functions of an individual.
Eating disorders are psychological conditions that cause the development of unhealthy food habits. The symptoms of eating disorders include impaired immune functioning, noticeable fluctuations in body weight (too much weight loss or gain), muscle weakness, yellowish skin, hair loss, swelling of salivary glands, sleep problems, etc. Most of the symptoms of eating disorders are physical and can cause severe medical complications. Types of eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, rumination disorder, pica, etc.
