The lipid profile test is a combination of a number of blood tests that predicts the risk of coronary heart disease in a person.

Ranges:

76-169 mg/dL for age group[ 20 or less.
100-199 mg/dL for age group 21 and above

Lipid profile requires the patient to come in fasting condition for about 12 hours. Patient can consume only water during the 12 hour fasting interval.

A lipid profile usually gives results for four different types of fats:

Total cholesterol
LDL ( low-density lipoprotein), the "bad cholesterol"
HDL (high-density lipoprotein), the "good cholesterol"
Triglycerides, another form of fat
