Why did slavery exist in the colonies?
The concept of slavery had existed for thousands of centuries. The exploitative and inhuman system made the lives of slaves miserable. During the fifteenth century, the Transatlantic slave trade allowed various European kingdoms to bring slaves from Africa to their colonies. In 1619, the colony of Virginia received its first captives, marking the start of slavery in American history.
