Thus the molecular formula for octane is "C8H18". 

The molecular formula for the structure CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2CH3 and CH3(CH2)6 CH3 is C8H18.

Therefore formula given in option (B) C8H20 and (C) C8H16 are not valid for octane.
