Expert Solution
Question 1

Saponifiable lipids are esters of fatty acids and glycerol. They can be easily hydrolyzed in alkaline solutions because of these ester bonds.
Fats, oils and triglycerides are good examples of saponifiable lipids because all of them have ester linkages which can react in alkaline solutions like sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide to give soap.

Non-saponifiable lipids do not have any ester linkages and so they cannot be hydrolyzed in alkaline solutions, they are complex and rather form difficult bonds within the molecule.
Examples include steroids, cholesterol etc

Steroid is a lipid that is non saponifiable
