they could make mistakes and offend someone. If everyone speaks English, then there will be less miscommunication. Also, English is
one of the easier languages to learn. The grammar is not too difficult and is like many European languages. In addition, many people
watch media from the United States and the United Kingdom. Therefore, they have a lot of opportunities to hear the language
spoken.
Conversely, there are reasons that English should not be the official world language. The first reason is that it is not fair to make
people learn a language that is not their own. English only has the third most native speakers in the world; the first two are Mandarin
Chinese and Spanish. Secondly, if everyone spoke the same language, it would make the world much less interesting. It might also
mean that languages would disappear at a higher rate. At present, it is estimated that one language disappears every fourteen days.
Although English is easier to learn than some languages, not everyone would be able to learn it. Grammar rules are very different
around the world.
