Beta decay is basically a radioactive decay in which highly energetic positive or negative rays are emitted which are either electron (negatively charged) or positron (positively charged). These are emitted generally when the nucleus transits from one energy state to another . Therefore, the beta rays are of two types : 

Beta + decay or beta - decay.

Both these types of rays are affected by electric and magnetic field.
