On 18 February 1943, in the morning when the leaflets were distributed-I was also in the University and I heard that a male and a female stu- dent had been arrested. When he was already condemned to death, he had permission to speak to me for five minutes. I said, "Why didn't you tell me anything about it?" He said, "It wasn't for you... Maybe he was right. I made compromises. He must have been driven by forces that I did not have. Perhaps an hour before his death, he dictated a letter to a priest, addressed to me, which changed my life. He wrote, "Your destiny should be to keep my memory and intentions alive. Send my last greetings to all my friends. They should continue what we have begun." It is a precept that I have carried with me for the rest of my life. My life is more difficult now that I am getting older and I can hardly walk, I have the feeling that my brother is making sure that I can continue.
