What is the reason 0 degree sun angle? What is the implication in terms of day length

Expert Solution
Step 1

Answer:

The main reason for the 0 degree sun angle.

The angular separation between the observer's zenith at the equator and the sun at solar noon is known as the sun angle, also known as solar declination. Due to the Earth's tilt on its axis of rotation and the Earth's revolution around the sun, the declination angle, given by the symbol, varies periodically. The declination would always be zero degrees if the Earth's axis of rotation were straight. The declination angle can vary by plus or minus this much since the Earth is slanted by 23.45°. The declination angle is zero degrees only during the spring and fall equinoxes. Equinoxes have a declination of 0 (March 22 and September 22).

When facing north, it is favourable; when facing south, it is unfavourable. The declination reaches its highest point on June 21 at +23° 17'. (the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere, the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere). On December 20, a value of 23° 27' is obtained.
