watershed (
Watershed is the area on land that drains water into any waterbody, be it a river or lake or stream. Every waterbody has its own watershed or catchment area. In strict sense watershed is high elevation area where precipitation in the form of rainfall or snowmelt flow downslope under the effect of gravity. Area of watershed determines the size of waterbody it drains into.
Every place on Earth's surface is showing some kind of altitude variation. In this sense water flows downslope in almost all places where there is rainfall or snowfall. The place we live may also exhibit altitude variations with respect to nearby localities and we find water flowing and entering higher order stream, ultimately joining a larger waterbody. Therefore it is true to say that we live within a watershed which collects and drain water into larger waterbodies on receiving greater amount of precipitation.
