A. Society must be stratified in order to build consensus with regard to the political project of the ruling order. Through divisions within society, a general consensus can be made over the direction of culture, economy, and social norms.
B. Society must distribute its members in social positions, and get them to perform the duties set by these positions. Society must concern itself with motivating individuals to fill certain positions and the desire to perform duties attached to those positions.
C. Society must be stratified in order to create harmony between different cultural, racial, and linguistic groups. The creation of a natural stratification means these groups learn to know their position in society and accept it in the long run.
D. Society must be stratified in order to build the knowledge of different communities through cooperation between the different groups, this enables there to be a more democratic say in the decision-making process.
Social stratification is the process through which society is divided into tiers or layers according to social rank, wealth, occupation, education, race, gender, and other considerations. As a result, there is a social hierarchy where some people or organizations are more powerful, wealthy, or respected than others.
The effects of social stratification on both individuals and society at large are profound. In contrast to individuals at the bottom, who may encounter social mobility restrictions and may find it difficult to meet their most basic requirements, those at the top of the social hierarchy frequently have better access to resources and opportunities. As certain groups are routinely excluded or sidelined from significant social, economic, and political institutions, social stratification can also perpetuate injustices and inequalities.
