What is the differential compound generator and what is the principle of work, what are its advantages and disadvantages, and what is its drawing and image
Generator is a electrical machine which converts Mechanical energy into electrical energy. Differential compound generator is type of generator where the the field and shunt windings are wound connected . It is also known as compound wound generator
Differential Compound generator
In Compound generator two field windings are present one is connected in series and other is parallel with armature windings. As it has both series and parallel winding connection that is why it is known as compound wound generator .
Compound wound generator are of two types
1. Cumulative compound generator
2.Differential Compound generator
When the magnetic flux by series windings assist the flux by parallel windings then the compound generator is known as Cumulative compound generator
When the magnetic flux by series winding oppose the flux by parallel winding then the compound generator is known as differential compound generator. As the fluxes oppose each other the induce e m f gets reduce which in turn reduce terminal voltage
This generator also works on the same principle of electromagnetic induction.
Windings can be connected in two ways
1.Short shunt
2.Long shunt
In short shunt connection the shunt Field windings are connected parallel only with armature winding. where as for long shunt connections , shunt field windings are connected parallel with both armature and series field winding.
