Hotspot volcano
A hotspot is an area on the Earth that is fed by the mantle. Heat is generated in the hotspot by the convection process. The increased heat in the hotspot enables the melting of rock in the lithosphere. The melted rock or magma ascends through the crack in the crust to form volcanoes.
A hotspot volcano is not formed in the boundary of tectonic plates, but all other volcanoes are located on plate boundaries. Heat generation centers that create hotspot volcanoes are called mantle plumes. Boundary volcanoes are created either by the collision or subduction of the tectonic plates.
