infections more common in women?

Expert Solution
Step 1

The urinary system’s function is to filter blood, eliminate waste products and also to regulate blood pressure levels in the body. Filtration occurs in tiny units called Nephrons in the kidneys, each of it consists of a renal corpuscle that is located in the renal cortex, and a renal tubule that extends into the medulla and then back into the cortex. The corpuscle contains a bunch of porous capillaries called a glomerulus which is contained in the glomerular capsule also known as Bowman’s capsule.

The urinary system consists of the urinary tract organs - kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder and urethra.

Kidneys - A pair of kidneys are located below the ribs towards the middle of the back. The kidneys have tiny filtering units called nephrons which are composed of renal corpuscle and a renal tubule.

Ureters - Two narrow tubes carry urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder.

Urinary bladder - Muscular sac organ located in the pelvis that stores urine from the kidneys before excretion by urination via the urethra.

Urethra - Its a tube-like duct that allows the passage of urine outside the body. The sphincter muscles of urethra are controlled by the brain for voluntary and involuntary urination.
