What is 15q?
Chromosomes are the DNA molecules with a portion or all of the genetic material of the organisms. They have thread like structures and found inside the nucleus of plant and animal cells. They are composed of a single molecule of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and some proteins. They contain the genetic information of the organisms that make each type of organism unique.
There are different types of chromosomal abnormalities and mutation can be found in the chromosomes. Chromosomal duplication is one of them. It is a type of mutation that involves formation of one or more than one copies of any segment of the DNA. Duplication sometimes includes a gene or even the whole chromosome. Duplication is opposite to the deletion.
