Expert Solution
Introduction
Female Genital Mutilation(FGM) is a social-cultural practice where a girl's external genitals are partially or totally removed. The practice is normalised in several cultures and communities n the onset of puberty.
With the global population increase, FGM incidents are also on the rise. The prevalence rate is more in Sub-Saharan Africa and Arab countries. How much human tissue they cut varies between communities. It is referred to as Female circumcision in some parts of the world.
The WHO have recognised four types of FGM'
- Clitoridectomy (Clitoris is removed partially or wholly.)
- Excision ( Partial or complete removal of both clitoris and Labia minora)
- Infibulation (The vaginal Orifice is narrowed by cutting genital parts)
- Any other non-medical practice to female genitalia that causes harm.
