what do the melting point and freezing point of a substance in common?

what is the difference between the melting and freezing o a substance?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Matter exists in specific state as liquid, solid or gas depending on external factors such as temperature and pressure. They can change from one state to another when there are changes in temperature or pressure.

Melting point - the temperature at which a solid turns into a liquid.(Example ice to water) Melting  point of ice is zero degree Celsius at 1 atm.

Freezing point - the temperature at which a liquid turns into a solid. (Example water ice ) Freezing  point of water is zero degree Celsius at 1 atm.)

The melting and freezing point changes with pressure,  but normally they are given at 1 atm.
A pure substance has the same freezing and melting points
