What are the processes of Urbanisation?

Expert Solution
INTRODUCTION

The sociology of urban transformations explains the concept of urbanization in a much broader way. Urbanization is a process seen as the consequence of industrialization. In any form of society, the industrialization period marked the establishment of the factory mode of production, which led to the migration of people from the rural localities as settlers to the industries' vicinity. This led to the process of urbanization.

EXPLANATION

Urbanization is the process in which the people migrate from rural localities to urban centers. The people from different rural backgrounds come to settle in a place that develops the urban centers. The rural economies get transformed into modern industrial forms. There are majorly the four processes of urbanization which the sociology of urban transformations talks about,

Urbanization: In this, the people from different geographical locations come to settle in a particular location, and this settlement grows due to several physical and human factors. Industrialization is considered a factor for the initial urbanization where it attracts the people by providing the employment opportunities that result in the upliftment of the individual's socio-economic conditions.

Suburbanization: The urbanized region grows its structure from the central position towards the outward. The city spreads to the surrounding environment due to larger migrations from the rural economies leading to larger economic activities. The city assimilates the surrounding villages which exist around it.

Counterurbanisation: The settlements in the central part of the city move towards the city's surrounding parts or villages due to several attractive factors. For example, a large group of technology companies established in the outer edge of the urban city leads to people's movement from the center of the city to the surrounding villages of the city in which the technology companies are established.

Reurbanisation: The re-urbanization takes place due to several political and economic decisions. For example, suppose the state takes its stand to develop the infrastructure of the central core of the city and provide it with many facilities. In that case, the re-urbanization occurs where the people relocate to the core of the city due to the state's attractive policies.
