What are the main developments in warfare which followed the invention of gunpowder?
Gunpowder is one of the earliest forms of chemical explosive which consisted of saltpeter, charcoal, and sulfur. Its use is seen in rocketry, firearms, quarrying, the building of roads, artillery, and mining. It is a kind of low explosive. It was first invented in China by Taoists for use in medicine. Its use in warfare was first seen around 904 AD. By the 13th century, various parts of Eurasia started using it largely. It was replaced by smokeless powder and was considered less efficient than fuel oil and dynamite.
