Introduction

Mezei was born to Romanian parents in Gibraltar. He moved to the United States in 1923 and had lived in the country till 1948. In 1948, he left the United States to go to Romania to visit his ailing mother, however, he was denied entry in Romania and had to stay back in Hungary for 19 months until he got a visa to return back to the United States. Upon his entry into the United States in 1950, the Attorney General excluded him permanently from the United States on national security grounds.
