Enzymes are biocatalyst that increases the speed of reaction by lowering the activation energy. Enzymes influence biological reactions by decreasing the activation energy necessary to start the chemical change. temperature, pH, and concentration of enzymes all influence functioning of enzymes. The site of the substrate must match with the enzyme's active site then only bond formation occurs between them which leads to proceed further reaction. In the lock and key model, the enzyme active site is complementary to the substrate. hence, the substrate properly fits in the enzyme active site. Enzymes are divided into two general classes
- Simple enzymes: These enzymes consist entirely of amino acids.
- Conjugated enzymes: These enzymes contain a non-protein group called a Cofactor, which is required for biological activity.
