The bearing capacity of the soil is defined as the capacity of the soil to bear the loads from the foundation. Thus, Bearing capacity is basically the measure of the load that the soil can sustain when a structure is built over it.
Bearing capacity equations for shallow foundations were derived by so many researchers and engineers. But there were limitations, which was fulfilled by the next researchers. The latest further equation which was extended after so many researches was of Hansen, who included all the factors which were not included by previous researchers including Rankine, Terzaghi, Meyerhoff etc.
