Expert Solution
Step 1
  • The ICP's capacity to efficiently and reproducibly vaporise, atomize, excite, and ionise a variety of elements in a variety of sample matrices is what gives it the most analytical advantages over other excitation sources. This is mostly caused by the high temperature, which ranges from 6000 to 8000 K in the ICP observation zones and is far higher than the maximum temperature of flames or furnaces (3300 K).

  • The ICP's high temperature makes it possible for it to excite refractory materials and less susceptible to matrix interferences. Although the ICP is frequently less loud and better equipped to handle liquid samples, other electrical-discharge-based sources, such as alternating current and direct current arcs and sparks, as well as microwave-induced plasmas (MIP), also have high temperatures for excitation and ionisation.

  • Furthermore, as the ICP is an electrodeless source, there is no contamination from contaminants found in electrode materials. Aside from that, constructing an ICP assembly is not too difficult and costs less than other sources like a LIP.
