![A distillation column is separating Benzene and Phenol (average relative volatility is 2.5) which
operates at atmospheric pressure. Two different feed enters to the column at rate of 1,600 kmol/hr
with 35% Phenol and 80% liquid; and the second feed enters containing 45% benzene at rate of
1,800 kmol/hr. Feed 2 contains 85% liquid. The distillate and bottom composition of Benzene are
required to be 92 mole% and 8 mole% respectively. The reflux ratio is 1.9 times the minimum
value. Calculate:
i.
ii.
On graph paper draw and label the VLE curve including x=y line.
Mass balance around the column.
The location of the feed plates.
Minimum reflux ratio.
iii.
iv.
V.
