describe six specific safety precautions to be stated in work permit and explain any four potential hazard reported in the confiend space

Expert Solution
Step 1

Places which are enclosed and it creates conditions which can result in an accident or injury that would need an emergency action is known as a confined space. The conditions that can cause such an incident are:

(i)  A flammable atmosphere which can lead to explosion

(ii) leakage of harmful gases or fumes.

(iii) Increase in the level of the liquids or free-flowing of the solids.

(iv) The presence of oxygen in excess can lead to a fire.

(v) Excessive high temperatures can lead to a fire.

(vi) Lack of oxygen

Step 2

In the work permit for confined spaces, the six safety precautions that are necessary are:

(i) Safe work system: All the required information, experience, and knowledge relevant to the work must be acquired. A set of rules and regulations must be passed along all the employees to be adhered to.

(ii) Ventilation: Proper ventilation in the space is to be ensured along with temporary ventilation in case of any hazard. In the case of areas with no natural supply of air within the space, a breathing apparatus is to be used to supply enough air in the space.

(iii) Isolation: Local utilities such as gas, water, and electricity are to be isolated for the safety of the employees in the space.

(iv) Personal protective equipment (PPE): All the employees must be equipped with proper PPE. Also, it is to be taken care that the PPE issued does not induce any other hazard.

(v) Emergency procedures: Before space starts to function, all the emergency arrangements are to be put in places such as first aid, rescuer safety, and close contact with the emergency services. In case of an emergency, measures must be reinforced so that all the employers are rescued safely. In such a case, identified rescuers must be ready at all times with proper training and are themselves protected in case of an emergency.

(vi) Training: It is a critical part of work in all the confined spaces. All the employees must be provided with proper training regarding the work going on in the space.
