the growth of onion roots. They hypothesized that caffeine-a stimulant-would increase
the rate of root growth.
They immersed the bottom of a group of onion bulbs in a solution of 1 mM caffeine and
that of the other group of onion bulbs in distilled water. Then they measured the root
length of both treated or experimental and untreated or control groups of onion bulbs.
This was repeated for a total of five trials. The results from their experiments are illus-
trated in the table below.
