Mesoamerica and Andean South America saw the birth of civilizations. Mesoamerica may be broken down into four distinct regions. The biggest civilizations arose in central Mexico, Meso-america's northernmost region. The Maya region, which includes the Yucatan Peninsula, Belize, and Guatemala, is the southernmost half; as the name suggests, this was the Maya people's homeland. The Andes, the world's largest mountain range, which runs down the continent's western coast, gave birth to South American civilization.
