Former President Trump signed into law and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Act 2018, on November 16, 2018. This agency reports directly to the CISA director and their mission is to “integrate full individual privacy protections into the management of a safe, secure, and resilient infrastructure” (CISA, 2018). It is the law to ensure that the privacy officer does not use technology that can erode these protections, information is handled in compliance with the Privacy Act of 1974, evaluates proposals involving the collection, use and disclosure of PII, and conducts impact assessments. This is all done in addition to complying with privacy laws, federal policies, executive orders, and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mandates.
