Presentation
In a conference, I met two presenters: Elizabeth and John, Elizabeth claimed to be a good presenter, that
people would be blown away by with her presentation. During the presentation Elizabeth presented in a
sluggish manner that sounded more like a lullaby than a wake-up call. She spoke in monotone, her most
critical points indistinguishable from all the rest. Her slides were a jumble of typestyles and clashing
colours. She seemed as bored as she was making her audience. John, by contrast, is a master presenter
who uses stories to make a point or teach a lesson. He laces his stories with details that make the
situations he portrays vivid and memorable. He injects humour by finding the humour in everyday
experiences. You know from his tone of voice, emphasis, and pauses what is most important. When John
presents, he looks like he is having a good time and is eager for us to have a good time with him. He
rarely uses slides. He just talks, very up front and personal. People who have heard John speak once
want to hear his presentations again and again.
