Prevalence: Studies suggest that there is a huge gender gap in the prevalence of depression. The female to male ratio suggests is estimated to be 1.7: 1, which indicates that women are twice as more prone to be diagnosed with the depressive disorder than men. The research indicates that the factors contributing to women's vulnerability towards depression could be the emotional sensitivity and hormonal changes that occur early in female adolescents whereas, emotional maturity, as well as other hormonal changes,  occurs late in males.
