The form of thyroid hormone most active at tissues is.
Thyroid hormones play important role in the regulation of basal metabolic rate by stimulating the use of cellular oxygen, and increasing the production of ATP. Hormones which are secreted from hypothalamus regulate the synthesis and secretion of pituitary hormones. Thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) stimulates the release of Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) by the anterior pituitary. TRH is produced by the hypothalamus and travels to the pituitary via the hypophyseal portal system. TSH or thyroid stimulating hormone stimulates the synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones from the thyroid gland. Follicular cells of thyroid gland produces thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which are together called as thyroid hormones.
