**Didinium nasutum** is a single-celled alveolate. It is a predatory cell that hunts down and attacks its primary prey, the fellow alveolates in the group **Paramecium**. Even though most species of **Paramecium** are larger and faster, **D. nasutum** is able to poison its prey. **D. nasutum** is then able to engulf the prey while it is paralyzed and restrained. The image shows a **D. nasutum** engulfing a **Paramecium**.
