Expert Solution
Step 1

An indentured laborer is any person that agrees to work for an employer for some specific period according to a contract in order to work off their debts. During the 19th century, India was under the colonial rule of the Britishers, and the Indian economy was devastated. Frustrated with poverty and famine, many Indian agreed to travel to different British colonies as indentured laborers. After the abolition of slavery in most British colonies in 1834, the demand for Indians to work as indentured laborers in these colonies drastically increased. The British officials sent Indians to plantation colonies as indentured laborers.
